ATLANTA, GA (Wednesday, March 8, 2023) – The SKI Autosports garage is expanding for 2023 with an Audi R8 LMS Ultra added to the team’s collection of racing machines.
In 2023, SKI Autosports will compete in select International GT races, where they won the 2021 Maranello Cup (Ferrari) Championship, as well as the SRO GT America Series, where they very successfully ran a limited schedule in 2022 in their Ferrari 458 GT3.
Multiple championship, Le Mans, Rolex 24 and Sebring winner, Johnny O’Connell will pilot the SKI entries across these championships. Team owners Kent and Melissa Hussey are excited about the arrival of the new Audi race car at their program support shop, Phil Creighton Motorsports.
“The decision to purchase the Audi was to open the opportunity for more diverse options within our motorsports program,” said Kent Hussey.
“We will begin with testing and decide from there which car, the Ferrari, which we’ve had great success with, or the Audi will become our primary race car for SRO GT America.
“To keep with the iconic livery of our Ferrari, we have decided on a similar livery for the Audi which I think will be very striking and recognizable on track.”
The Audi will compete for the first time under the SKI Autosports umbrella in the International GT race, March 23-26, 2023 at Road Atlanta. The sprint races on Saturday, March 25 will be live streamed on SpeedTour.TV
“Road Atlanta is Johnny’s home track and he has more laps around there than just about anybody, so it makes a great backdrop for learning the Audi on a very familiar circuit,” continued Hussey.
O’Connell made his debut with SKI Autosports last year at the Classic 24 event at Daytona International Speedway.
“I think it’s pretty exciting and shows the commitment of SKI Autosport that we now have the option to run an Audi this season,” O’Connell said.
“I’ve never driven one but I have done battle with them before and know from the experience it’s a great racing car.
“Speaking with my friend, Matt Bell, he thinks highly of the car, which gives me confidence. With it in the stable, the question then will become to race the Audi or the Ferrari, which is not a bad problem to have. Needless to say I’m looking forward to NOLA (April 28-30) when we make our first appearance in SRO GT America.”
