ATLANTA, GA – (Wednesday, August 16, 2023) – For a team based in Atlanta, you wouldn’t think Elkhart Lake’s Road America would be a “home” track but for SKI Autosports the classic 4-mile road course is very much a home away from home for the team.

Team owner Kent Hussey has spent a lot of time racing at Road America in a variety of cars.  Additionally, SKI Autosports has experienced great success at America’s National Park of Speed.

The Hussey-owned team swept the weekend, winning all three International GT races in 2021, and last year in GT America, SKI Autosports took a win and a second place in their Ferrari 458 GT3.

“This year, we are still getting to know the Audi but are very confident racing a course we all really love,” Hussey said.

“The newly repaved track is an unknown to most of us. There are a few that participated in the IMSA race a few weeks ago, so that might be an advantage; however, for most of us, this will be the first time on the repaved circuit.

“This event is one of our favorites, with the downtown GT parade on Thursday and fast racing all weekend. We had a great run at the last round on the streets of Nashville, but this weekend will be a completely different style of racetrack – one that Johnny and the entire team are really looking forward to.”

“If you ask any of the top European racers what is their favorite race track in the US, pretty much everyone will say Road America. The combination of corners, braking zones, and long straightaways make for a circuit that is great to race on.

“From what I’ve heard now that it’s repaved, it’s several seconds quicker but off-line can be quite treacherous. The kink especially. But I kind of like that. The old-school race tracks like Road America have all corners that separate talent. The kink is definitely one of those. Get it right you’re gonna have a great lap time; get it wrong, and it’s going to be expensive.

“Naturally, coming off the win and second place at Nashville, I’m certain that everybody at SKI Autosports is feeling great about things. That said, I don’t feel the Audi has quite the downforce the newer cars have. Our secret weapon is Rossella (Manfrinato)… and I have little doubt she will give us a car that’s dialed in and get us to the front.”
