ATLANTA, GA (Wednesday, May 1, 2024) Sebring Raceway Hall of Fame driver Johnny O’Connell is the winningest driver at the famed World War II circuit with eight wins at the Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring. However, this weekend, he will be going for his first win in SRO GT America powered by AWS competition at the famed track.

After a chaotic start on the Long Beach street circuit, where O’Connell sustained extensive front-end damage to his Audi R8 LMS GT3, Johnny put in a brilliant drive with the damaged car. After the race, the crew was under pressure to return to their Atlanta home base and make the needed repairs.

“We are so grateful to Philip Creighton and Alton Henry for their herculean efforts this past week getting the car repaired,” said team owner, Kent Hussey.

“The transporter arrived back at the shop on Thursday and they worked tirelessly through the weekend to have the car back to race shape and loaded for Sebring.

“With these cross-country treks for events, any damage sustained in races creates a great obstacle, and we are very proud of the entire crew for their efforts both at the track and back at the shop.

“We’re optimistic about Sebring. We tested there in February and got a great baseline on the car’s setup and performance. Of course, Johnny’s record there is unmatched, so we have his vast knowledge and experience to lean on as well.

“We’re just 7 points out of the lead in the championship and well in front of the next few places. Our focus, as always, is on the championship. We’re looking for consistent podium finishes.”

JOHNNY O’CONNELL

“It’s no surprise that Sebring is one of my favorite races of the year. I’ve had great luck there over the years, and the circuit has always seemed to suit my strengths.

“The entire SKI Autosports crew is coming to grips with the new car as a team. We still don’t have much time with it, but it’s been quite competitive.

“I only bring this up as the guys with the Mercedes have a lot of experience with their rides, and both Kurtz and Daskalos are really showing to be quick. That stated, I feel very good going into this weekend and have high expectations.”
